There's a little barbecue place right around the corner from home called Swallow at the Hollow. Everyone is always asking me if I've eaten there, oh-my-god-you-have-to-eat-there-that-place-so-cool, so I just say 'yeah, its great, love going there' when in fact I've only eaten there once before and just wasn't impressed. Of course, that was over three years ago. We went when there was a standing-room-only popular band there playing, and I ended up eating half of a friend's cold sandwich because we couldn't get any service after the beers were put on the table. But I'm just not a huge barbeque person, I have to be in just the right mood to eat it. I've been dissappointed so many times by ribs that are too tough or too dry. I'm very particular about my ribs- I only like them when the meat is so tender its falls off the bone when I bite into it and the sauce should already be on there. No dry meat please. bleh.
Last night, after spending way too much money at Home Depot Expo on some new ceiling fans for the loft, we couldn't decide where to eat. We almost headed to Rea's for a burger when Calvin suggested Swallow. I've been on a sort of barbeque streak lately and I think he wants to take advantage of it. We've eaten at Slopes, Sonny's, Dreamland, Smokey Bones, and Famous Daves all within the past few months. That's more barbeque than I've eaten in years. seriously. So anyway, last night we ended up at Swallow at the Hollow. They had live music that wasn't half bad and we didn't have to wait for a table. I had the half rack of baby backs with baked beans, fries, bicuits, and sweet tea. Calvin had the sliced pork with brunswick stew, mac-n-cheese, bread, and sweet tea. It took a little while to get our food, but there was a fairly large group in ahead of us. Calvin loved the tea- he said it was nice to have tea that actually tasted like tea and not straight sugar. hhmm, I think that was not a compliment on the tea I keep in the fridge at home! The only thing we'd do differently is Calvin would have gotten the chopped pork instead of sliced and I think I would have gotten some extra biscuits to take home because they were that good. The ribs were actually some of the best I've had, if you don't count my brother's smoked baby back ribs. They were very tender and had just the right amount of sauce on them. I was wishing there was a roll of papertowels on the table. I am so glad we decided to go there again, and I know that we will be going back there very soon. Next time I'll be sure to ask for a stack of extra napkins and I'm gonna have to take some friends though, for sure- gotta spread the love, ya know?
