2005 Christmas Parade

AtlantaMINIS has done it again.  We had so much fun participating in the 2005 Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Christmas Parade last Saturday.  It all started about a month ago when Angel submitted an application on behalf of the club to the parade chairperson.  We were invited to participate, but there was a $2500 entry fee that wouldn't be waived for us like it was last year.  Since we aren't a car club with dues and we donated every penny from this year's silent auction, we were at a loss as to how to get this much money.  We decided to ask the MINI dealerships if they would like to sponsor us and Angel started off at Global Imports.  Well, that is as far as she got because they picked up the entire tab in return for us incorporating dealership info into the parade graphics.  E.T. did a fantastic job updating last year's graphics to fit with what we needed for this year.  Then Angel worked her butt off the past three weeks getting everything sewn for our MINIS' new holiday attire.  We had two work parties so everyone could assemble their own stuff, and take some of the pressure off the Steering Committee.  This year we were Christmas Mice as the theme of the parade was "Twas the Night Before Christmas."  Not quite as awe inspiring as the reindeer, but I think we could do almost anything with Angel designing and having lots of MINIS- its gonna look great.

We made it from Krispy Kreme to the parade staging area very easily, but once there, it was really confusing as they didn't quite know where we were supposed to be put.  Finally, we were able to get our MINIS all dressed up and it looked so cool.  It looked neat with just one MINI Christmouse, but to have twenty-four was just way too cool.  There is definitely power in numbers.

Someone showed up with our banner, and despite the many, many emails exchanged regarding the exact working to go on the banner- it was still wrong.  It was supposed to say "Global Imports MINI Presents AtlantaMINIS Car Club" but it only said "Global Imports MINI Presents" on it.  It may have been ok had we known to get our own banner made that we could use to walk behind the official parade banner, but that was never even mentioned by the Banner Chairperson.  So, I was pretty upset by this, but never fear when E.T. is near.  He totally performed a Christmas miracle by finding a graphics shop where he knew the owner and getting AtlantaMINIS in vinyl to put under what was already on there.  So, E.T. totally wins the VIP award!

There was another mix-up with the banner walkers.  We were never told that anyone walking had to be over 12 years old, so all the kids that wanted to walk were wearing the cutest mouse costumes that Angel handmade only to find that they had to ride instead just as we were starting out.  My passenger, Nick, had to hop out and help carry the banner instead.  Well, at least we know for next year now but that didn't help the poor boys that were supposed to walk with our banner this year.  After we did finally get started, it was great! We were third to last float, so everyone was looking for Santa and totally loved the MINIS.  Wonder what we'll be next year.......
